DAVID BENZING
David Benzing received his Ph.D. in botany from the University of Michigan and is retired from teaching biology at Oberlin College. His publications, which include four books, chapters in about twenty more volumes, and approximately seventy-five reports in technical journals, mostly deal with the adaptive biology of vascular epiphytes, especially bromeliads and orchids. He currently holds the Jessie B. Cox Chair for Tropical Botany at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida, where he spends winters. Summers are spent in northern Ohio, where he and two partners own and manage a small vineyard and winery that operate according to ecologically sustainable land use and energy practices.
