A healthy mimosa tree in bloom is a spectacular sight. The low branching, open, spreading habit and lacy, fernlike foliage are attractive in themselves, but the real beauty comes when the silky pink pompom blossoms bloom. But despite the beauty of the mimosa it should be avoided. Over much of the South this tree seeds freely and invades any type of disturbed habitat. It inhibits the growth of more desirable native species.
