Jay Humphreys served as the communications director for the Florida Sea Grant College Program at the University of Florida from 1989 to 1999. He’s now a freelance writer, and much of his writing is devoted to explaining complex scientific subjects in a way that can be easily understood by lay readers. A graduate of West Virginia University, Humphreys lives in St. Augustine with his wife, two sons, and two dogs.
