Paul Varnes is a retired professor from the Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism at the University of Florida. He has lived in Florida all his life except during his military service in infantry combat in Korea. A number of his ancestors fought in the Civil War, and he has drawn on official documents and family history to write his novels. He lives with his wife, Jill, who is an administrator and professor at the University of Florida.
