Mote Marine includes a marine research facility, an aquarium, and a marine mammal rehabilitation center that treats dolphins, whales, and sea turtles. The research arm began in 1955 with Eugenie Clark’s shark research. Today world-renowned marine scientists study the oceans and their inhabitants. You can see some of them at work in viewable laboratories. At the aquarium you will have an up-close experience with a variety of marine animals and fish, including two touch tanks and a 135,000-gallon shark habitat. You will see manatees, sea turtles, and more than 100 kinds of marine life. You can go kayaking, head out onto the Gulf with research charters, and take eco-boat tours on Sarasota Bay.
