This showcase of native Florida wildlife offers visitors a rare opportunity to observe manatees, fresh- and saltwater fish, snakes, alligators, deer, otters, and many kinds of birds in a natural setting. The huge spring at the headwaters of the Homosassa River is the centerpiece of the park, and the underwater “fishbowl” observatory allows you to see manatees and thousands of fish at close range. The park is a manatee rehabilitation center and refuge, and educational programs focus on saving and preserving these endangered mammals.
