A small, pristine, wave-dominated barrier island is immediately south of Estero Island and Ft. Myers Beach in Lee County. It is Lovers Key and it contains a state park with typical amenities as its only development. The island is only about 1.5 miles long and has right angle changes in orientation at each end. The island is dominated by wetlands that extend well back into the backbarrier estuary.
